The Discovery Garden

A fun place to learn and grow.

The Discovery Garden is a non profit organization located at La Vista Park in Godfrey Illinois. Our mission is to teach children, through tangible, experiential learning, about their natural source of food. Their time at the garden will promote children's connections with the natural cycles of the Earth and foster an understanding and appreciation of organic gardening.

We at the Discovery Garden provide a variety of programs. Groups that have visited us include area schools (public and private), Girl Scouts, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, and the YWCA. We are also open to other groups, like homeschoolers and church youth groups. In short, if your group would like to visit the garden, we'd love to have you.

Our programs are available for a nominal fee. Program fees assist in compensating for the cost of some consumable materials. Our volunteers will lead your students in planting or harvesting (depending on the season), in garden maintenance (weeding, mulching...), and a short lesson on some aspect of organic gardening, biodiversity, or other topics. In addition, many programs also include a craft project. Most program options also include a make-it-and-take-it activity component.

We offer six standard programs, and would be happy to individually tailor a program (like nutrition or biodiversity) to complement your activities and suit your needs or curriculum goals.
